One year ago today my life was changed by...

Crafting?!! Let me explain... This time last year my family of six was right smack dab in the middle of the biggest transition of our lives. We had resigned one position to accept another position which meant trying to take on new roles AND relocate at the same time. With 6 people with ages scattered between  43 and barely 2, it is almost a laughable feat. Everyday proved a new and uncertain challenge.

Rewind three months earlier... I had been a long time follower of blogger Meg Duerksen, and her blog, Whatever . I was often inspired by her creativity and also how she found time to do this all while raising 5 kids. I remember seeing pics she shared from several craft weekends that she hosted at her house and thought that it was one of the coolest ideas I had ever seen. On a whim, I signed up to be on the waiting list to attend a craft weekend thinking that maybe in the fall or next year there might be a chance of getting chosen and if life granted me the opportunity, I would attend. This was a dream, really, just wishful thinking. At this time there was no knowledge of the upcoming transition in our life. It wasn't long after that I receive an email stating my name had been drawn for the June craft weekend... I was shocked at how fast I was chosen but decided if I could find a friend to join my adventure, I would commit. Long time friend and blogger, Kelly , was up for the trip to Kansas and we begin making plans to attend.




















June 8, 2012 - As we finished loading the car, said goodbye to the family, and clicked our heels towards Newton, KS, we expressed with school kid nervousness and anxiousness how it felt like the first day of a new school year... When you don't know what to expect in the coming days ahead. We laughed more than once thinking how crazy it was to pay money to drive far from home to stay with people we had never met in a house that we didn't know.

When we arrive at Meg's home late in the afternoon, we were instantly made to feel at home. She is even more darling in person than I had expected. She and Kimberlee make a phenomenal team and we immediately begin to relax and enjoy just being ourselves and having a wonderful girls weekend away from all the everyday cares and challenges that each of us face. They know how to pamper you and help you unwind. From the food they prepared, the swag gifts we received, to the crafts, to the antique-ing, and of course, the Sonic run, every detail was first class.





















We made aprons, headbands, sunshine signs, buntings, and lots more. There were so many fun prizes and swag bags from sponsors. We felt as if we were given more gifts every time we turned around. They know how to pamper their guests.





As long as i can remember i have loved crafting... But this weekend helped me get to a place of relaxation that I forgot existed. It awakened me to the realization that I NEED to craft to relax. This was a beginning of what propelled me into the venture known as Anything's POSHible. At a time of transition in my personal life, God allowed me (at the perfect time) to experience something that would forever change me and help prepare for challenges ahead. Through my crafting outlet, I am able to do something productive with my hands that helps me to enjoy myself again, helps my family a little, and hopefully blesses my friends and customers with almost one of a kind accessories... And that is how one year ago today, crafting changed my life!

Recap of this week on IG Friday

Sometimes you have the best of intentions of conquering the world. Some days all the planets and stars align perfectly and wondrous things transpire. And then there are weeks like this week... where good intentions are sidelined by life happenings and all your to do lists and plans jump out the window and you are left to shoot from the hip as each day goes along.

Monday was baby girl's big #3 birthday. We spent the day doing whatever she desired. For a 3 year old, that means Sonic, crafting, a trip to the Dollar Store, playing at the park, and cupcakes with the family. We also made a trip by the cemetery to let Pawpaw "see" what a big girl she is becoming. We love to talk about him and even though he never got to meet the babies, we keep his memory alive. What a beautiful day it was!

I worked Tuesday on refinishing an antique school desk that belonged to my husband's family. It was old and stained. After a good cleaning, some chalk paint, and a little distressing, it now looks great again. This didn't go quite as planned though and I will blog later about some of the things I have learned about what to do and not do with homemade chalk paint. For now, I'm enjoying an improved desk. :)

Wednesday was supposed to be raining and although the sky looked threatening, the rain passed us by so we got out to do a little sidewalk chalk art. That is one of the many perks of homeschooling... after months of being stuck inside, we are all thrilled to be able to get outside a bit and still call it school. I love to watch the creativity of children through art.

Thursday I got a little nastalgic on #TBT looking at pics of my babies and realizing how fast they grow and change. I also realized that like it or not, friendships can change too. Sometimes we don't want relationships to change but inevitably they do. I lit a candle from one of my very special friends and remembered the days gone by.

Today was just extra hectic around the house. Many projects were left half-done and I would like to say I made it through my to do list but it will just wait until next week. To add fuel to the fire, I dropped my oldest daughter off for her first ever real babysitting job, away from home, without my help, without my own children... Times are changing. My kids are growing up. Life is flying by. To deal with the extra stress and emotion of it all, I met the mister for a late dinner after work and we indulged in a scrumptious fried ice cream. It may not ease the feelings that life is going way too fast, but it sure did make the evening that much nicer! Hug your family tonight. Enjoy having everyone together. As I finish typing this, my daughter has come in from her "job" and is telling me all about it. It is like a hug saying, everything is going to be alright. This is a beautiful season in our life. Just like the beauty in these pictures, I want to sit back and take it all in...... and then remember to thank my Lord and Savior for blessing me way more than I could ever deserve.

Anything's Poshible... furniture too. Desk Makeover.

Anything's POSHible was the name our family selected for our blog and "business" because although we mainly enjoy refashioning clothing or working with fabric, it is also a LOVE of mine to redo furniture that may have become blah or boring. It all started with a redo for the hubby's office. We had purchased a lovely entertainment center from an antique store that we wanted to upcycle to make it work for his new work station.

Well, it sat and sat as I tried to work up my previous courage to redo this. Why couldn't I have started on something easy or that really didn't matter if we messed it up....

Finally, we agreed to work together. He is much faster at painting than I am and being that we were going with a chalk paint recipe, it didn't have to be perfect and it dried super quick.

I decided to try making my own version of chalk paint. We used the  plaster of paris chalk paint recipe found here. It is basically 1 cup of POP mixed with 1 cup of hot water. Then that mixture is mixed with 3 cups of paint of your choosing. We then painted away, waited for first coat to dry, painted another coat, and let that dry. 

Then came the fun part... diSTRESSing. After I got past the fear of messing it up, the distressing actually began to de-stress me! We used 150 and 200 grit sand paper to destress where we wanted the "wear" to show. After all of these steps were finished, I finished our piece by protecting it with a coating on minwax paste finishing wax. This was much less expensive than other choices and I have been thrilled with the results.

All in all, I am so happy that I chose to use chalk paint on hubby's work center and he loves it as well.

So if you have been considering trying chalk paint, I encourage you to take a leap of faith and go big!! You will be glad you did!

Wednesday Already?!

Happy Hump Day, my friends! Yes, I thought it was Tuesday until a random person informed me that it is definitely NOT Tuesday. I had so many plans for Tuesday... Well, they are now my Wednesday plans. I have many thoughts about what is coming next for Anything's POSHible but I needed to take a few days off to reorganize my house after a crazy, good last week. Being a family of six, you can imagine the laundry that comes with a crazy, good week! :D We had an amazing time at MO Youth Convention. My older girls were beaming from having so much quality time with their friends and by the chance of getting to meet many new friends. I was busy working our Anything's POSHible booth and was very happy and VERY tired with the results from 3 days of working what felt like non-stop. Mr. T was just happy to survive 3 days of daddy patrol with 2 very rambunctious toddlers. Then Easter came and it was a very.good.day! The kind of day you just want to freeze in time and savor every.single.second!! Every part of the day was a delight... The service, the worship, the crowd, the kids' presentation, the friends, the food, the discussions, the relaxing... It.was.just.so.good. And it was all because we celebrated the real reason for Easter, our RISEN SAVIOR!! What a reason to celebrate!!

So here we are at Hump Day, for those that work outside the home, Hump Day is a celebration that means we are so much closer to the weekend. For me, my home and the people in it is my work so Hump Day means I haven't checked off near enough things on my to do list and haven't done near enough to feel accomplished. But isn't that the life of most SAHMs? I sit down and make my list. There are some really important things that must get done.
1. somebody's turning 3!!
2. taxes must be finished.
3. grand opening of Etsy store!!
4. work on blog post schedule!

As you can see, there are some VERY IMPORTANT things on that list. Well, they are all important but as much as I would like to jump to #3 or #4, the others do take precedent. So sometime this week, as soon as I possibly can, I will be working on my grand opening... It is slated for around next Tuesday or Wednesday!

P.S. As you can tell by the post date, it is now later Thursday. A constant resolution in my life is to finish what I start. EEK!! Maybe #4 on my list is going to move up to #3, hehe!! Happy Thursday, y'all!!
